The Lion King prequel will be released in theaters for Christmas, in less than a month.

Moana 2 is about to hit theaters (this Wednesday in France and the United States), but it will not be the only Disney Christmas this year. Another blockbuster from the studio will try to wake up the US box office: Mufasathe prequel to Lion King directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight). A feature film which uses the same technique (photorealistic animation) as the remake by Jon Favreau released in 2019.

A few weeks before the film's release, Disney unveils a third (and final?) trailer where we can hear the definitive French voices for the first time. Of which Tahar Rahim (Mufasa), Gwendal Marimoutou (Taka), Jamel Debbouze (Timon) and Alban Ivanov (Pumbaa). If you are more of a VO team, you will be able to hear Aaron Pierre (Mufasa), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Taka), Billy Eichner (Timon) and Seth Rogen (Pumbaa).

Mufasa: The Lion King takes place in the form of flashbacks told by Rafiki to the young lioness Kiara – the daughter of Simba and Nala. With support from the comic duo Timon and Pumbaa, always quick to amuse the gallery. The film will tell the story of a young orphaned lion who became king and in particular his meeting with Taka, the heir to a royal lineage.

The announcement of the project and the first trailer were coldly received by some Internet users, accusing Barry Jenkins of having given in to the lure of profit. The latter had defended the importance of Lion King as a first Shakespearean experience for generations of children. A big fan of the 1994 animated film, the director recently claimed to have seen it more than 150 times. See you at the cinema on December 18 to judge the result.
