The new Disney is the last millionaire of the year (source: Le Film Français/ComScore).
Despite mixed reviews, the public was there for Mufasa. With 1.2 million admissions in France, Barry Jenkins' film logically takes the lead at the box office this week, ahead of another Disney, Moana 2which is approaching six million tickets sold in one month.
Mufasa is the 32nd feature film to cross the million mark in French theaters in 2024, but this good start must be put into perspective. The remake of Lion King signed Jon Favreau, whose Mufasa is the prequel (and somewhat the sequel), attracted 3.2 million spectators for its first week.
Another novelty joins the podium: comedy Under nuts (adapted from the eponymous web series) with 250,000 tickets sold. It's not really a surprise, the gang of SEGPA (2 million admissions in two films) having demonstrated that it knows how to mobilize its audience. With fanfarewith Benjamin Lavernhe and Pierre Lottin, made almost as much and continued his great career (and 1.3 million in total).
During this time, Kraven crashes, attracting only 150,000 curious people. As in the United States, it is worse than the launch of Madame Web (more than 200,000 spectators last February). Disappointment also for Sarah Bernhardt, the divine. 124,000 people came for the biopic led by Sandrine Kiberlain, who was content with 8th place in the ranking.
Finally, Twenty Gods confirms after its good start and passes the milestone of 300,000 entries. A real success for this modestly budgeted first film (which has the highest number of copies in the top 10), continuing its successful festival career, which began last May at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section. Its distributor, Pyramide, ended the year in style after the success of Souleymane's story And Wild fig tree seeds.
