Chuck Coleman, an aerobatics instructor who also trained Miles Teller in the movie Top Gun, passed away in a tragic mid-flight accident on the afternoon of October 20, 2024. Teller offers a eulogy.
According to local media, Coleman crashed while performing an aerobatic show at an event at Las Cruces International Airport in New Mexico, and never returned home.
Coleman is a veteran pilot with over 10,000 flight hours and over 3,000 aerobatics, and was the aerobatics sympathizer for the cast of Top Gun: Maverick.
Miles Teller, who played Rooster in the movie, mourned the teacher's sudden death on social media. Along with photos taken during the flight and two-shots taken with Coleman, he wrote:
“Rest in peace Chuck Coleman. Chuck is an aerobatic instructor who was instrumental in the preparation for Top Gun Maverick. He is an aerospace engineer, air show and test pilot, and our… He was a friend and a companion. Chuck was a very kind person, generous with his expertise, and always made us feel at ease. He was kind, humble, and curious about other people and the world. He passed away too soon, but his dedication will live on forever. Thank you for the memories, Chuck.”
