The monster made of clay will star in a spin-off feature film, produced by Matt Reeves.
Master of Horror on Netflix with Hill House And The Fall of the House of Usherdirector of the sequel to Shining (named Doctor Sleep) or the next remake of The Exorcist at the cinema, Mike Flanagan has become an essential horror figure in Hollywood.
And he will put a foot in the superhero genre, by modeling a film in the universe of Batman. He will shed light on one of his most horrible enemies, the terrifying Clayface (Gueule d'argile in French), naughty cult of comics and the famous animated series of the 1990s.
For the moment, Flanagan is the screenwriter of the feature film, and we do not yet know if he will direct it. On the other hand, we know that he works in collaboration with Matt Reeves, the filmmaker behind the films The Batman worn by Robert Pattinson. Yet, James Gunnthe boss of DC Studios, assures in the process that this film Clayface will be part of the new DC Universe, or more precisely that it will be a “history of the DCU“. Suffice it to say that we don't really know what that means, since the Batman of Matt Reeves is for the moment separated from the Gunn universe, which will open in cinema with Superman (this summer).
In comics, Clayface is in reality a certain Basil Karlo, a second-rate actor who goes crazy after learning that a remake of a horror film in which he had starred was taking place without him. He is made of oozing slime which allows him to transform into different shapes at will. A certain Eve Karlo, played by Carmen Ejogoappeared in the HBO series The Penguin in recent weeks… a relationship?
The project still needs to be clarified. One thing is certain: Warner Bros. has officially set a release date for September 11, 2026 in theaters.
