A horror remake of “Steamboat Willie”, released in 1928…
It has fallen into the public domain! Since January 1, 2024, the version “Steamboat Willie” of Mickey Mouse (the very first Walt Disney film in which the mouse appears) can be reused at will by creatives of all kinds. And so, as Winnie the Pooh before him, Steamboat Willie is going to become a horror movie, with Mickey playing the role of the psychopathic killer!
It will be called Screamboat (get the pun?) and it's David Howard Thorntonbest known for playing Art the Clown in the films Terrifywho will take over the big ears.
“Screamboat won't be a masked slasher villain who simply reprises the role of Steamboat Willie. Our Steamboat Willie is truly the Steamboat Willie you remember – with the songs and the poses and everything!” explains the director Steven LaMortewhich therefore promises a funny assumed remake.
The film's cast also includes Allison Pittel, Amy Schumacher, Jesse Posey, Jesse Kove, Rumi C. Jean-Louis, Jarlath Conroy and Charles Edwin Powell.
Screamboat is expected to be released on VOD in early 2025 by DeskPop Entertainment and Iconic Events Releasing.
