The latest supervillain in Sony's Spider-Man Universe is being targeted.
Maybe Sony knew that Kraven was not going to be favored by the critics. The studio has been suggesting for several days that its Sony's Spider-Man Universe will stop after the film carried by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The flop already promises to be resounding and Kraven the Hunterwhich will be released next week (December 18 in France), is being massacred by the American press.
The film currently has an abysmal score of 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. It's less than Morbius in 2022, and barely more than Madame Web at the start of the year.
Variety summarizes the general thought in a few words: “I've seen much worse comic book movies than Kravenbut the best way to sum up my feelings is to admit that I didn't stick around to see if there was a post-credits scene. A dereliction of professional duty, I know, but I didn't even do it on purpose. It didn't even occur to me…”
For Coming Soon, Kraven suffers from a “big rhythm problem.” And according to the site, “the film is only funny when the action starts, because the dialogue scenes are tedious.”
More severe, Rolling Stone believes that this film Kraven just didn'tnot much reason to exist. Everything was messed up and tampered with in the worst way possible. Definitely a self-inflicted fatal blow from Sony.”
IndieWire points the finger at special effects”that go from adorably cartoonish to made cheaply by a studio trying to cut its losses“.
IGN bluntly judges that this film “is one of the worst attempts at a superhero film of the modern era, leaving good actors in a terribly bland action film.”
Nerdist delivers the final blow: “Kraven the Hunter is another ignominious conclusion for a cinematic universe that has never had a single good film to fall back on.”
