The Good Place and The Acolyte actor says he was “not shocked” to see his role so reduced in the edit.

Currently at the heart of the series Star Wars The Acolyte, Manny Jacinto returns to GQ on experience Top Gun: Maverick. A film that was a huge success at the cinema in 2022. And which could have transformed the actor, already famous for the series The Good Placeas a star… but not everything went as planned. If he saw the career of his acting partner Glen Powell take off in Hollywood thanks to this action film led by Tom Cruiseit was not as acclaimed upon its release. And for good reason: all the dialogues of his character, Lieutenant Billy “Fritz” Avalone, were cut in the editing!

“It's flattering that this decision has led to a few complaints, but it didn't shock me, personally, explains the person concerned. On set, you could tell the crew was focused on the cameras and other actors, not so much on our scenes. Luckily, it's still a good experience: you get to see a big machine being set up, you get to see how Tom Cruise works, and you get a little part of this huge franchise…”

Tom Cruise was 'like a madman' at the Twisters premiere

“Ultimately, Tom Cruise writes stories for Tom Cruise, he continues after admitting his initial disappointment at seeing his role so reduced. It's up to us, Asian Americans, people of color, to also carry our projects. We can't wait for someone else to do it for us. If we want better stories, we have to make them for ourselves.”
