During an exclusive interview with THE RIVER for the movie “The Lion King: Mufasa'', Mads Mikkelsen expressed interest in the idea of Hannibal Lecter's childhood.
In Disney's latest film, The Lion King: Mufasa, Mikkelsen plays the role of Chiros, the lion who hunts down the main character Mufasa and Hawk. Since this film is a prequel to The Lion King (2019), when asked, “If you were to make a prequel to any of the roles you've played so far, what would it be?'' Mikkelsen replied, “I think it would be interesting.'' I think of Hannibal Lecter,” he replied. “I think it would definitely be interesting to see Hannibal as a child (lol),'' he said, referring to the serial killer he played in the drama “Hannibal'' (2013-2015).
“On the other hand, you might not want to see it. It might be better not to see it,” Mikkelsen continued. “There's no need for an excuse or reason for him to be who he is. He's who he is, and that's fine,'' he said, expressing his cautious opinion that it might not actually be produced.
Mikkelsen was particularly taken with the way Scar (Hawk) was told in The Lion King: Mufasa. “I think the story of why he became Scar should have been told,'' he said, praising the story of the latest film, but added, “There are some movies that are better off not doing that.'' As for Hannibal Lecter's past, it seems best to leave it to our imaginations.
“The Lion King: Mufasa” starring Mads Mikkelsen will be released in Japan on December 20, 2024. THE RIVER's exclusive interview with Mikkelsen will also be published on the same day along with the video.
