François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos are in love with the director of Le Grand Bain.

Colossal project financed to the tune of 35 million euros, Love Phew was presented in competition at the last Cannes Film Festival. Although it did not seduce the jury chaired by Greta Gerwig, the film by Gilles Lellouche is shaping up to be one of the major cinematic events of the last quarter of 2024, and a first teaser has just been unveiled by StudioCanal.

Adapted from a novel by Irish writer Neville Thompson, Love Phew tells the tragic and violent romance of a man and a woman, played in adolescence by Mallory Wanecque And Malik Frikahand in adulthood by Adele Exarchopoulos And Francois Civil. An epic and ambitious 3-hour fresco that invokes the cinema of Martin Scorsese or Paul Thomas Anderson.

Gilles Lellouche surrounded himself well to bring his vision to life, with Audrey Diwan to support him in writing and a huge cast that also includes Benoit Poelvoorde (who gave him the idea for the film), Karim Leklou, Elodie Bouchez, Alain Chabat, Jean-Pascal Zadi, Raphaël Quenard and Anthony Bajon.

I made the movie I dreamed of seeing“, the director told us in the issue of First from December 2023. “I love the mix of genres. Violence when it is mixed with humor, irony in the middle of the greatest sincerity. I tried to make a kind of sensory journey. The two films that I prefer in the world are Once Upon a Time in America And Journey at the end of hell. There coexist these kinds of permanent contradictions, chaos, hot and cold. We never know exactly where we are going and we are always a little caught out. This is what I aim for with Love phew.

Love Phew will be released in theaters on October 16, 2024.
