After almost six years at Kennywood Park, one attraction will soon be “riding” off into the sunset as the park plans to replace it with something new. A spokesperson from the park told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 Saturday that the park’s Thomas Town will be replaced with an “updated thematic area complete with five rides” for children and adults this year. “This thematic area will take the place of Thomas Town,” Kennywood Park said in a statement to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. “We are thankful for the collaboration with the Thomas & Friends™ brand and Mattel and looking forward to future opportunities for collaboration.” Thomas Town debuted at the park on July 27, 2018. The attraction “featured five rides including a train ride with Thomas, a live stage show, themed play and entertainment areas, retail store and more,” Kennywood said on its official website. According to the website, Thomas Town would become the “largest permanent Thomas & Friends™ attraction in North America.” The attraction was also said to be one of the “largest single-year additions in Kennywood’s 120-year history.” The park said more details on the rethemed area and new ride names will be announced soon.
