La Folie à deux by Todd Philipps took the lead in the national rankings. But with significantly fewer entries than the first part in 2019.
1 million less. This is the first edifying observation of Joker 2 at the French box office. There Folie à Deux by Todd Philipps attracted 1 million fewer spectators in France – after one week of operation – than Joker 1 in 2019.
Concretely, the musical takes control of the national ranking with 602,000 admissions (in a huge number of 930 theaters) for its first days of operation. A completely honorable launch in absolute terms, but almost three times less than at the time of the first part, which recorded more than 1.6 million tickets sold in the first week (in significantly fewer theaters: 630) . As a reminder, the dark thriller which won an Oscar for Joaquin Phoenix had ended its run at 5.61 million admissions in France. It will be complicated for Joker 2 to get that high.
The good news is more for the François Ozon. With his 24th feature film, the director confirms that he still attracts spectators. In this case, there are 240,000 (in 360 theaters) who have already seen When autumn comes. A good score, even if it also remains much lower than that of the previous film: Ozon started with 430,000 tickets for My crime in 2023, ultimately totaling 1.1 million entries.
On the podium, Beetlejuice2 fell from its number 1 position which it had held for three weeks. But the farce of Tim Burton continues to do well, helped, it is true, by a gigantic distribution in more than 1000 theaters across France. Still, the results are not very impressive: after one month, Beetlejuice2 has still not crossed the milestone of 1.5 million entries.
Milestone reached by The Count of Monte Cristo for a long time. Pierre Niney attracts another 150,000 fans for its 15th week and is only a few tickets away from the spectacular threshold of 9 million spectators!
