So, Jenna Ortega was interviewed on the sidelines of the preview of Beetlejuice Beetlejuicethe new film by Tim Burton in which she plays Astrid, the daughter of Lydia, played by Winona Ryder. If she struggles at first to answer – the choice, difficult, requires careful thought – she ends up giving four, two of which are… French.

For the first it is neither more nor less than Hate by Mathieu Kassovitz:

“I think it's a classic, a timeless filmshe says. Hatred This is the first role of Vincent Cassel. This movie is so good… It's about police brutality in Paris. I think it's still relevant today, and visually it's absolutely stunning.”

A love at first sight that his grandmother does not seem to share in the film, Catherine O'Harainterviewed alongside her, since she is completely unfamiliar with the 1995 film. A surprising choice, but probably no more so than her second favourite film, which is none other than a French production dating from 1928, The Passion of Joan of Arcmade by the Danish Carl Theodor Dreyer :

“The performance of Maria Falconetti is absolutely crazy. Playing Joan of Arc would be a dream for me.”enthuses the 21-year-old actress.

To complete her selection, Jenna Ortega calls upon Barry Lindon of Stanley Kubrick as well as Paris Texasthe 1984 Palme d'Or of Wim Wenders. Definitely a cinephile and never where you expect him to be.
