JD Vance to make stop in western Pennsylvania
Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance is scheduled to make an appearance in western Pennsylvania on Saturday.Campaign officials say that Vance will participate in a town hall meeting set for 1 p.m. at the Monroeville Convention Center. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for the event hosted by evangelical preacher and political blogger Lance Wallnau, who is moderating the discussion with Vance as part of the “Courage Tour.””This is one of the most targeted, tactical, sophisticated voter mobilization Christian nationalist efforts in American history,” said Matthew D. Taylor, a senior scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies, based in Baltimore.Taylor has studied Wallnau for several years and told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that the evangelical leader is a “very calculated person.””He is an incredibly effective galvanizer and catalyzer of Christian radicalization and Christian nationalism,” Taylor said.Wallnau, for his part, rejects the term “Christian nationalism.” He spoke with Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 outside the Monroeville Convention Center Friday night.”The average American needs to learn how to own their own opinion, not be afraid to say what they think,” he said. “And if you don’t do that, you start to lose your freedoms by increments.”In light of the announcement of his event with Vance, Wallnau has garnered attention from critics, who decry recent comments aimed at Vice President Kamala Harris, including that she practiced “witchcraft” at this month’s debate with former President Donald Trump. He also has called Harris a “jezebel” and said she is guided by “demonic forces.””I certainly don’t get represented properly,” Wallnau said. “For instance, I could have an hour of profundity, and if I make one statement that could be incendiary, it’ll hit Drudge Report and NBC.”When speaking to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4, Wallnau stood by his comments that have been interpreted as incendiary.Harris’ campaign called Wallnau a “conspiracy theorist” in response to learning about the event with Vance, and pointed out that he was near the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.The Trump/Vance campaign did not respond to a request for comment at the time of this story’s publication.

“This is one of the most targeted, tactical, sophisticated voter mobilization Christian nationalist efforts in American history,” said Matthew D. Taylor, a senior scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies, based in Baltimore.
Taylor has studied Wallnau for several years and told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that the evangelical leader is a “very calculated person.”
“He is an incredibly effective galvanizer and catalyzer of Christian radicalization and Christian nationalism,” Taylor said.
Wallnau, for his part, rejects the term “Christian nationalism.” He spoke with Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 outside the Monroeville Convention Center Friday night.
“The average American needs to learn how to own their own opinion, not be afraid to say what they think,” he said. “And if you don’t do that, you start to lose your freedoms by increments.”
In light of the announcement of his event with Vance, Wallnau has garnered attention from critics, who decry recent comments aimed at Vice President Kamala Harris, including that she practiced “witchcraft” at this month’s debate with former President Donald Trump. “I certainly don’t get represented properly,” Wallnau said. “For instance, I could have an hour of profundity, and if I make one statement that could be incendiary, it’ll hit Drudge Report and NBC.”
When speaking to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4, Wallnau stood by his comments that have been interpreted as incendiary.
