The former Aquaman performer should soon be starring in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

“They called.”

This brief message from Jason Momoa on Instagram is panicking comic fans at the very end of 2024. Just a year ago, the actor closed the Snyderverse with Aquaman 2a forgettable sequel to his successful 2018 solo film, but there were already rumors that he could return to Warner Bros. adaptations of DC comics. James Gunn has since confirmed the return of certain actors in cast roles before he became creative head of the studio (with Peter Safran): Xolo Maridueña will continue to play Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis who will play Amanda Waller and John Cena who will play Peacemaker”, he confirmed in September 2023. Concerning Momoa, it's a little different, because if he does return to this saga, it will be in a very different role from that of Arthur Curry: Lobo. One of the great comic book villains, particularly violent.

After Aquaman, Lobo: Jason Momoa could change superheroes at Warner

An anti-hero from the planet Czarnia, Lobo possesses superhuman strength, regenerative abilities and invulnerability that make him a formidable opponent for Batman, Superman and the others. Created by screenwriter Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen, he is described as a bounty hunter who loves chaos and destruction. He was first introduced in Omega Men #3, June 1983.

Momoa was linked to this role of Lobo even before James Gunn took over as CEO of DC. He has expressed interest in the role in the past, and even revealed that when he auditioned for Zack Snyder's Justice League in Batman V Supermanwhen he realized he wouldn't get the role of Batman, he thought he would be called back for it… and was very surprised to discover that the director was actually offering him the role of Aquaman.

In his Instagram post, the actor confirms his attachment to the role with a screenshot of an interview excerpt during which he already expressed his desire to play Lobo:

“I collect comics, and even though I don't do it as much now, it was still my favorite. I always wanted to play Lobo, I was like: 'It's the perfect role for me'. So there you have it, if someone from DC calls me to play Lobo, it would be a 'f***ing yes'. I wouldn't want to announce anything, since I haven't received that call yet, but if they contact me for an audition, I'm there.”

It is now done, Momoa now specifying in the caption: “They called.”

Deadline specifies that the arrival of Jason Momoa in Lobo should be done on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow the adaptation of a Tom King comic published very recently (2022). Craig Gillepsie (Me, Tonya) is to film it from a script by Ana Nogeuira, with Milly Alcock (from House of the Dragon) in the title role, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villainous Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle.

The filming of Supergirl being scheduled for January 13, 2025 (for release on June 26, 2026), Warner Bros. should quickly confirm the actor's involvement. Moreover, James Gunn – who for his part is preparing a new Superman– has already posted a drawing of Lobo on his social networks, barely sharing Momoa's message to his fans…
