There are plenty of Easter eggs to be had – including the ladder-free pool!

They are just as popular as Mario Bros. Created in the 2000s, The Sims and their countless variations and expansions (vampire Sims, superstars, and even knights) have conquered millions of players around the world. And although there is no fifth installment planned, as announced by Electronic Arts, which distributes the video games, the future of the inhabitants of Sim City lies elsewhere – on the big screen:

“We are EXCITED to announce that in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, our team is working on a film based on The Sims.”

The news was made official on the franchise's official blog and confirms the first rumors heard earlier this year. It follows the resounding success of recent video game film adaptations, Super Mario Bros., as well as Mattel toys, with Barbie by Greta Gerwig – whose film hopes to have the same impact on audiences. It’s a time of nostalgia in Hollywood, and it’s not about to end. Next on the list is Minecraft, adapted from the famous pixelated video game.

Crazy First Trailer for Minecraft Movie

The Sims: The Movie will be produced by Electronic Arts and LuckyChap, Margot Robbie's company, but also directed by Kate Herron (Sex Education, Loki) and co-written by Briony Redmanscreenwriter of Doctor Who, “two Sims players” According to Kate Gorman, representative of EA Games:

“We wanted to work with people who had the same passion as us to build something that our community would love too.”

In a true open world where everything is possible and nothing is forbidden, the video game has no concrete objective. Players are invited to imagine their characters, make them interact with each other, build houses, etc. They are the masters of this virtual reality. With Variety, The team confirms that many elements anchored in the imagination of Sims will be present in the story:

“You’ll see a lot of the Sims universe come to life and many of the classic experiences our players have had brought to life in the film.”

Does this mean that we will find a swimming pool without a ladder – a common experience of all players who have tried to drown their character? For the EA representative, this is not to be excluded, just like the presence of the famous pink rabbit found behind a refrigerator, an emblematic running gag of Sims.

But what else? The reaper? The green diamond above their heads? Will the characters speak that famous language called The Sims, that set of incomprehensible sounds, or will they express themselves in English?

Plot details are still under wraps, but The Sims could certainly arrive next year – when the game will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary.
