John Steinbeck's great classic will be adapted into a mini-series.
70 years ago, James Dean exploded at the cinema in East of Eden. This time, it is in streaming that the work of John Steinbeck. The novel published in 1952 will be the subject of a 7-episode mini-series, officially ordered by the streamer.
Florence PughMarvel star and Oscar-nominated actress for The Daughters of Doctor Marchwill be at the center of the story, which will focus on Cathy Ames, a character played by Jo Van Fleet in the film'Elia Kazan and which earned its performer an Oscar.
Netflix will concentrate a “new focus on this unforgettable anti-heroine, as she explores the multi-generational saga of the Trask family” explains Netflix.
At the casting, Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) will reprise the role of Adam Trask; Mike Faist (Challengers) will be Charles, Adam's brother and Hoon Lee (Warrior) will play Lee, Adam's servant and friend.
Zoe Kazan will succeed her grandfather Elia Kazan behind the camera, as she will be screenwriter, executive producer and co-showrunner with Jeb Stuart. Pugh will also serve as a producer.
“In bringing this family saga to life, the resonance of my own familial connection to the subject was not lost on me” comments Zoe Kazan in a press release. “But it was Steinbeck's writing – personal, shocking, profound and free – that fascinated me. I first read East of Eden when I was a young teenager. Working on this project is a great joy, and I am delighted with the casting.”
