The terrorist organization Hezbollah launched rockets into Israeli territory this week as ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel continue to deteriorate.

More than 50 rockets struck the Golan Heights in an attack on Wednesday, wounding one person and destroying two homes – part of a deadly exchange that continues between the Lebanese group and Israel.

“Hezbollah continues to fire projectiles indiscriminately toward Israel,” the Israeli military said in a statement Wednesday. “At present, approximately 50 projectiles have been fired, some of which have landed in the city of Katzrin.”

Israel says the attack is a response to a successful strike on an arms depot in Lebanon that reportedly left at least one person dead.

“There were no other targets in the area except a civilian neighborhood and children on summer vacation,” Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani said after the attack. “Attacks on our civilians will not go unanswered.”

Israel has controlled the Golan Heights since its conquest at the end of the Six-Day War.

Israel maintains that the Golan Heights are necessary for national security and the territory was formally annexed in 1967. The United States has recognized it as Israeli territory since 2019.

Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging missile fire regularly since October 2010, when a Hamas-led terrorist attack on the Jewish state sparked the ongoing conflict. Hamas and Israel have failed to reach a ceasefire agreement, despite considerable assistance from American diplomats.

Speaking to reporters from Israel, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Monday that a proposal presented last week The deal, reached by the White House in coordination with the leaders of Qatar and Egypt, was aimed at “bridging the gaps” between the warring parties and was “accepted” by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“He supports this initiative,” Blinken said. “Now it is up to Hamas to do the same.”

“The parties – with the help of the mediators, the United States, Egypt and Qatar – must come together and complete the process of reaching clear agreements on how they will implement the commitments they made under this agreement,” he added.
