Pascal Chaumeil's successful comedy returns this Sunday on W9.

“A gamble”. This is how we describe the release of 2010 The Heartbreaker, first feature film of Pascal Chaumeil. Former assistant director for Luc Besson (among others) and director of numerous episodes of series, the filmmaker offered himself a grand entry into cinema with this romantic comedy bringing together the very good Romain Duris and the sparkling Vanessa Paradis.

Nearly 4 million spectators flocked to French cinemas to discover this film. Additional reward: he was nominated 5 times for the 2011 César in the categories of best film, best first film, best actor (Romain Duris), Best Supporting Actor (François Damiens) and Best Supporting Actress (Julie Ferrier). The team leaves this ceremony empty-handed. But the main thing is elsewhere. If The Heartbreaker did not bring Caesar to Pascal Chaumeil, it allowed him to earn his stripes as a director for the general public. But the director only benefited from this new lease of life in cinema for a handful of years. He died in August 2015 at the age of 54, struck down by cancer.

The best of George Michael at the cinema: Deadpool, Zoolander, The Heartbreaker…

This evening at 9:10 p.m., W9 offers to find The Heartbreaker, a film in which Romain Duris “hits the screen from the first images with its seductive nonchalance and takes us into a whirlwind of love from which we cannot let go. Opposite the all too rare Vanessa Paradis is a little dazzled by the prowess of her gentleman burglar of hearts. At their side , a collection of excellent supporting roles (… A poker game which reveals itself as a joyful and lively game like we would like to see more often in French cinema.”

The story of The Heartbreaker : Alex is a professional couple breaker. In just a few weeks, he sets out to turn any husband, fiancé, and boyfriend into an ex. Hideouts, wiretapping, false identity, devastating smile, everything is good for him to fulfill his contract. His next target is Juliette, a young, free and independent heiress. In ten days, she will marry an attractive young man whom she loves more than anything in the world. Ten days for an “impossible” and very eventful seduction mission during which our high-flying con artist risks discovering to his cost that in love the perfect plan does not exist.
