KDKA-TV's Jon Delano spoke with Harris in an exclusive interview, challenging her to clarify her position on fracking.

“So let me start by saying that this ad, as you described it, is absolutely a misinterpretation, which I think is intended to make people fear my presidency,” Harris said.

“Let me be absolutely clear, as I said when I said it in 2020, I will not ban fracking. I did not do that as vice president. In fact “I voted to split more fracking leases,” she added, referring to her role as vice president in passing the so-called Inflation Reduction Act. Senate deadlocked.

In 2020, Harris was asked about fracking during her vice presidential debate against then-Vice President Mike Pence, but did not reveal a reversal of her stated opposition to fracking in 2019, simply saying that Biden would not ban fracking as president.

“Joe Biden will not end fracking. He's been very clear about that,” Harris said.

“I say it again and the American people know that Joe Biden will not ban fracking. That's a fact. That's a fact,” she added during another part of the debate.

I'm going to make sure that we invest in communities that have done the kind of work that you have in mind when you talk about Pittsburgh, when you talk about the greater aspect of Pennsylvania,” she promised. “And I’m going to continue to do this work.”

“That's where I am, period. As president of the United States, I will not ban fracking,” Harris said.
