The world is now eagerly awaiting French action films made on Netflix, smelling of gunpowder and charred bitumen. So here is GTMAXplotted by the producer Rémi Leautier (behind the films Lost ball) and directed by Olivier Schneidera stunt pro with dozens of amazing credits on his resume (from Fast & Furious has James Bond).
A little air of Burnout (with François Civil on a go fast on a motorbike) also hovers here. This is the story of Soélie (Ava Baya), a former motocross champion having had to hang up her gloves, who will have to, to save the family business (Gerard Lanvin plays the patriarch), to join a gang of motorcycle robbers. Oddly, it is not so much for its motocross scenes (a little repetitive) that the film appeals, as for its portraits of characters, all well-drawn, solidly embodied, and driven by interesting dilemmas.
Ava Baya delivers as a biker with a laser gaze and tight jaw, when Jalil Lespertlike a cold-blooded gangster, drops the temperature a few degrees as soon as he appears. In its final act, thanks to a long chase using ingeniously the Parisian topography, the film takes off for good.
Nothing that could worry the Ethan Hunt meandering through Place de l'Etoile in Mission: Impossible – Falloutbut nothing to be ashamed of either. Okay, and Lost ball 3when is it?
