Ridley Scott's epic is a hit in the United Kingdom, France and Spain in particular.
Once is not customary: if Gladiator 2 has been a hit in France for a week already, the epic sequel has still not been released in North America. Preferring to focus on Thanksgiving week, the Paramount studio has set its release across the Atlantic for November 22 (just before the week off in the USA).
Gladiator II has therefore not yet grossed anything at the US box office, but the film has already grossed more than 87 million dollars at the international box office. Already released in 63 countries, including France, it has had an impressive, even historic, start, since it is the best launch abroad for Ridley Scott, whose all-time box office records come from Alone on Mars ($630 million worldwide), Gladiator ($465 million worldwide) and Prometheus ($403 million).
Gladiator II also grossed $7 million in Imax from 453 screens, ranking among the company's top three international releases of the year.
In detail, the epic was a hit in the United Kingdom with $11.4 million (722 theaters) followed by France with $10.3 million (729 theaters), Spain with $5.6 million. (411 theaters), Australia with $5 million (353 theaters) and Mexico with $4.7 million (922).
A good omen before the American release of Gladiator 2which grossed $190 million at the US box office in 2000. This represented a third of its final revenue at the time.
