Former Pirates pitcher signs 2025 contract with Washington Wild Things

A pitcher who spent two years in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization has signed on to join the Washington Wild Things starting in 2025. In a statement Monday, the Washington organization said they have acquired right-handed pitcher Joelvis Del Rosario, a 23-year-old native of the Dominican Republic, who last played for the A’s organization.According to the statement, the “2023 season was Rosario’s first in the Oakland system after he spent 2018-2022 in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.” Rosario spent 2018 and 2019 in the Dominican Summer League and combined to go 1-2 in 19 games (11 starts) to begin his pro career. He pitched 61.1 innings in the DOSL and struck out 47 to 22 walks with 52 hits allowed.”Del Rosario and Jommer Hernandez, Washington’s newly signed catcher, played together in the Dominican Summer League in 2018 with the Pirates organization,” the statement said. “Del Rosario did move into the top 30 prospects list for the A’s when Pittsburgh native Mason Miller graduated from the prospect list prior to the 2024 season.”The Washington Wild Things open their season on the road Friday, May 9, 2025. The team will play at home in Washington on May 13. The game will start at 7:05 p.m.
