Alexandre Astier has been filming the sequel, in two parts, since this summer, keeping his project as secret as possible.

Three years after the release of the first part of Kaamelottwhich attracted 2.6 million spectators to the cinema, The Parisian revealed just before the weekend thatAlexandre Astier was filming its sequel, “in the greatest secrecy”since this summer. Information confirmed at First by production:

“Yes, the filming of Kaamelott Second part is well underway, for a little while longer. This Second part will be cut into two feature films, which are shot at the same time.”

If the team, and the actor who plays King Arthur in the lead, does not want to give too many details – no precise schedule, nor filming locations revealed in advance to avoid being paparazzied and revealing surprises -, the words of Joëlle Silva (Dame Seli) last June have therefore been verified: the filming has indeed started during the summer of 2024.

“I start filming in June Kaamelott volume II, confided the actress. I'm always curious to know what Alexandre will write. We don't have access to the text.”

Alexandre Astier: “I tell myself that Kaamelott was made for the cinema”

Change of scenery

The launch of this sequel was confirmed this September by Olivier Henrard, the interim president of the CNC (National Center of Cinema), who announced during the back-to-school press conference: “Kaamelott 2 is in production.” Immediately, France Blue specified that shots were taken at the Jumilhac castle, in Dordogne, for about three weeks between mid-August and the first week of September. A setting already known to film buffs since Christophe Gans filmed key scenes from the Pact of the wolves (2001).

Henry de la Tour-du-Pin, the owner of the place, explained that he discovered that it had hosted the filming of Kaamelott Part Two only after the fact, and that he could not say too much anyway, having signed a confidentiality clause with the production:

“The contract I signed required the greatest possible discretion and I did not try to find out what feature film it was.”

Now that this well-kept secret has been revealed, where will filming continue for Kaamelott Part Two ? Let's remember that for the first part, Alexandre Astier had mainly set up his cameras in the French region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, with also a jump in the Sultanate of Oman, or at the castle of Murol, in Puy-de-Dôme, which served as a setting for the castle of Léodagan. Places seen in the series were also filmed again, for example Mont Mézenc, in Haute-Loire, a snowy site where Excalibur is planted in the rock, or the studios of the Pixel pole of Villeurbanne, main setting of the first seasons. In all, the shots were completed in 42 days.

For now, Kaamelott Part Two does not yet have a release date, even if it will logically not be visible before next year, or even early 2026. Alexandre Astier had confided in 2022 in As an aside that he would have liked release its two parts less than six months aparttaking as an example the famous diptych by Quentin Tarantino:

The second part will be in two parts. It is at the Kill Billa little bit, you see? It's two times 2 hours, separated by 4-5 months in release. So already for me it's a 4-hour film shoot. It's a little bit different.”

SND

Casting-wise, it's also a big secret. While Joëlle Silva has personally confirmed her return, Alexandre Astier should logically also find Anne Girouard (Guenièvre), Lionnel Astier (Léodagan), Franck Pitiot (Perceval), Jean-Christophe Hembert (Karadoc), Audrey Fleurot (Lady of the Lake), Jacques Chambon (Merlin) and all the other leading actors of the series, as well as several guests who arrived in the cinema (Sting, Guillaume Gallienne, Jehnny Beth…). Yvain, played by his brother Simon Astier And who was absent from the first part, will he make his big comeback in this sequel?

Finally, note that within the bonus of Kaamelott Part One in blu-rayAlexandre Astier has delivered the first plot elements regarding the continuation of his story. Beware of spoilerssince he deciphers here the very end of the first opus:

For me, this vision will haunt Arthur all his life. This vision, this look, from Furadja (Salwa Al Hajri), this trauma of seeing her pierced through and through (…). He killed a woman in the back because it was his only response to all this violence and in my opinion, in the fact that he is depressed, and that he cannot overcome this depression, this event in his youth counts for a lot.

[Arthur] is therefore unable to take revenge a second time and he will probably not be able to kill anyone again. What Lancelot (Thomas Cousseau) takes for weakness and incompetence, cowardice, but which in fact is more constructed than that. [Arthur] attempted suicide at the end of season 5, saved by Lancelot. He saw Caesar's suicide when he was younger in season 6, he is haunted by the idea of his own death and he tries to kill himself by lying on the table while the castle is about to fall on his face.

He is ashamed of his desire to die in front of young people who show willpower, courage and recklessness. (Gareth of Orcania, played by Thomas Neyret and Mehgan, played by her daughter Jeanne Astieeditor's note). And on top of that, he has to get them out of there, otherwise they'll die with him. So it was important to me that he be surprised by young people who have a vital energy that he no longer has.
