Is this the ultimate goal of the series Agatha All Along ? The little witch series has taken a totally MCU turn in recent weeks, with the revelation Billy Maximoff. Warning spoilers!
Indeed, we now know that Joe Locke actually plays one of Wanda's two sons, whom she created during WandaVision. The actor had to keep the secret for months. But now the truth is out in the open and episode 6 even gave further explanations.
It is understood that young teenager William Kaplan died in a road accident at the time Wanda's spell was lifted on Westview. Then Billy Maximoff's mind entered William's mind. “There was a break in time and space” explains the showrunner Jac Schaeffer in Variety, stating that this created a mystical opening for Billy to return. But that's not all: “There will be more to learn about how this happened. We're only halfway through this story, our players are still on the board and we still have things to reveal.”
In any case, the entry on the scene of Billy Maximoff “right away” was imagined by Schaeffer, who was also behind WandaVision. “Agatha, at her best, is a mentor, a teacher. So I wanted her to have a student. I imagined a goth teenager wearing eyeliner, a fan of the movie The Craft. And then executive producer Mary Livanos said to me, 'But it's Billy. Billy. It's Billy! That’s what really started the idea.”
When Billy first meets Agatha, the boy doesn't seem to have mastered magic (as we see at the end of episode 5), but the showrunner assures that “Billy was always aware of what he could do. He just never had the chance to put it into practice. We see in episode 6 that he can't really control his magic. This only manifests itself in intense moments. We see him able to read the minds of others and so he is aware of his power. But he does not know the extent of it.“
Now that Billy is here, when will we see Tommy? We understand that the goal of the road, for him, is to find his missing brother. So a return at the end of the season? “I can't answer this question…I know the answer, but I can't tell you“, just answers Joe Locke. While his boss already finds “exciting to finally be able to tell the public that his desire is to find his brother”.
It should be remembered that Billy and Tommy Maximoff are members of the Young Avengers in Marvel comics. Under the costumes of Wiccan and Speed, they become important members of this universe.
