They have horses but decided to come to this adoption event after meeting someone who had adopted a mustang.“We learned a lot about it when she got her horse, and that was the sweetest horse in the world. So, we were like, you know what, let’s start getting these, start getting mustangs,” Nicole Lee said.This is a regular event for the Bureau of Land Management. It rounds up wild horses and burros every year from the almost 29 million acres of public land it manages in 10 western states.They say the roundup is a form of herd management so the horses don’t deplete resources. And they say they’re smart, so someone with horse experience should have no problem taming them.“The whole point of training wild horses is to engage with the animal and to gain the horse’s trust. It doesn’t take long if you’re quiet with them and you’re hand feeding them every day and just standing there and being present, then horses will bond with you after about a week or two,” said Shawn Farnsworth, with the BLM. McKenzie Bach is sold. She drove her trailer all the way from New York to pick up a yearling.“I think it’ll be really exciting. He will have no bad interactions with people, so it’ll be great to build a relationship with him,” Bach said.Many of the people coming to adopt have done it before.
