Bugonia is co-written by Will Tracy (Succession) and produced by Ari Aster (Hereditary), adapted from a Korean film with a funny pitch, Save the Green Planet (2003).
Yorgos Lanthimos And Emma Stoneepisode… how many, already? From The Favoritereleased in 2018 and which won no less than seven BAFTAs, an Oscar, and the Grand Prize at the Venice Film Festival, the Greek director and the American actress continue to come together for ever crazier projects.
Earlier this year, the duo triumphed thanks to Poor Creatureswhich allowed the young actress to walk away with her second Oscar for best actress. Then their strange fable Kinds of Kindness offered Jesse Plemmons the prize for best actor at the last Cannes festival, and shortly after, we learned that this trio was going to come together for a new project with an astonishing pitch, Bugonia.
Emma Stone – Poor Creatures: “Bella is the character who made me the happiest”
This black comedy, based on a South Korean film, Save the Green Planet released in 2003, will tell the story of how two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the powerful CEO of a large company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.
In the original film, the kidnapped (a man) has his head shaved, the aliens subjecting him to all kinds of scientific experiments. If Emma Stone's recent photos and videos are to be believed, as the filming of this new version approaches, the actress should also appear with her ball at zero:

The reunion will not have to wait very long, Universal Pictures, distributor of the film in France, having announced this summer that Bugonia would be released at the end of 2025. Jerry Ko, head of CJ ENM, the South Korean company that produced the original film more than 20 years ago, detailed to the audience at the Busan International Film Festival how it “small remakable project” had transformed into a more ambitious production, directed by one of the most prominent filmmakers of the moment and supported by very popular stars.
“Our box was unknown, he began, relayed by The Hollywood Reporter. We were a bit on the fringes at the time. We thought this film had an innovative concept, which could make a good little indie film, and it was while traveling to Hollywood that we realized it had lots of hidden fans. One time I was in LA and Ari Aster was planning to introduce it to the public at a theater, so I arranged to meet him and ask if he would be interested in being involved in the production. Then Will Tracy, who co-wrote Successionalso arrived on this film to rework its story. Then the buzz continued to grow when Yorgos Lanthimos and some talented actors joined the project…”
