Who will be Cassandra Nova in the MCU? A mix between Willy Wonka and Colonel Hans Landa!

After shocking Netflix subscribers in The Crown, Emma Corrin changes register: the British star (who officially defines herself as non-binary) will be the big baddie of Deadpool & Wolverineafter being cast by Ryan Reynolds himself… via text message!

“I think I'll frame his text message.”laughs in EW Emma Corrin. “I was quietly watching TV with my roommates one night when my phone buzzed. I screamed. It was a completely crazy text message!”

As Cassandra Nova, an extraordinarily powerful telepath, Emma Corrin will play a complex figure from Marvel Comics, often presented as the evil twin sister of Professor Charles Xavier when she is, technically, a Mummudrai! What is it? An Alien basically, a bodiless extraterrestrial parasite that appeared in utero alongside Charles Xavier, copied his DNA, and was born as his ultimate opposite. Will her origin story be the same in Deadpool & Wolverine ? We don't know anything about it yet!

What we do know is that she will live in a headquarters built inside the head of a giant dead Ant-Man, and that she will rule a desolate land, with the help of mutants like Pyro and Sabretooth, from the old films. X-Men.

Ryan and Shawn Levy (the director) came to me with this idea, which I totally agreed with: to make a villain who is not a villain in the classic sense of the word. Everyone wants to be loved by her, everyone is charmed by her, and just when you think that maybe she is your soulmate or your best friend for life, you are dead!” the interpreter jokes.

Emma Corrin explains that his Cassandra is inspired by Nazi Colonel Hans Landa d'Inglourious Basterds, so memorably played by Christoph Waltz: “Because he's disarmingly polite, kind, and frank. And it's really scary to see. Cassandra is the same way. It's all the more sinister because it all comes naturally.“And at the same time, the star was inspired by Gene Wilder and his incarnation of Willy Wonka in Charlie and the chocolate factory (1971): “They wanted Casasndra to be extremely unpredictable, so that you could see her mood change completely. One moment she's bright, the next moment she's very moody. And you have no idea what could have happened…”

Deadpool & Wolverine will be available in theaters on July 24.
