Durov was arrested on August 24, 2024 at Le Bourget Airport by officers from the French anti-fraud office, which is under the French customs authorities. He was arrested as he stepped off his private jet after landing in France from Azerbaijan. Durov's arrest was based on an arrest warrant issued by the French judicial police as part of a preliminary investigation related to 12 alleged criminal violations on the Telegram platform. On August 28, Durov appeared before the prosecutor in court, who formalized 6 charges related to refusal to communicate at the request of competent authorities, involvement in criminal activities, and provision of cryptological services.
