Eddie Redmayne, who starred in the popular spy action drama “The Day of the Jackal,” has officially confirmed that he will reprise his role in season 2. With the Fantastic Beasts film series showing signs of coming to an end, this film is likely to become Redmayne's new masterpiece.
The film is based on the popular novel by British author Frederick Forsyth, and follows the exciting battle between the Jackal (Redmayne), a skilled assassin, and Bianca (Lashana Lynch), an agent of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). The story I drew. The original story was made into a film by director Fred Zinnemann in 1973, and a remake starring Bruce Willis was released in 1997. This work, which is the first dramatization, has updated settings such as the historical background and international situation.
Recently, a video message from Redmayne himself has been released on Sky TV's Instagram. To the fans of this work, “Thank you very much for watching and supporting “The Day of the Jackal.'' If there's one thing I can't stand about The Jackal, it's the unresolved ending. See you in 2,” he said.
This work, which was broadcast and distributed on Sky Atlantic in the UK and Peacock in the US, was announced to be renewed for season 2 in November 2024. It was not announced whether Redmayne or Lynch would continue in the roles, but this seems to have been done in consideration of the content of the season finale. With the release of the final episode on December 12th, it appears that Redmayne's return to the series has been officially announced.
The first episode of season 1 attracted 4.5 million viewers in the UK in 26 days, making it the most popular new series on Sky. In the first week of distribution in the United States, it was a hit and ranked in the top five in Nielsen's ranking of American original streaming series.
