Disney+ will add advertising to all its subscriptions

An update to Mickey's streaming service shows that even with a premium plan, you will be entitled to ads.

Disney+ currently offers three subscription plans, Standard with ads, Standard and Premium, the latter two of which include the option “Stream without ads”. A note on the subscription page specifies that “All subscription offers may include trailers for our theatrical films, promotion of Disney products and services, sponsorship messages and other limited promotional content.” This is the result of a recent update indicating that advertising could still be present even if you pay the highest rate, but apparently only in the “live content and special events that contain traditional commercial breaks”according to the site's terms of use. Which also promises you – this is part of the update – a suspension, or even a termination of your account if you ever use an ad blocker.

Disney+ is also trying to limit account sharing, the bane of streamers, by now stating that “you cannot share your subscription outside of your household”, then specifying that by this term “household”, Disney+ means “all devices associated with your principal personal residence and used by persons residing there.”

How do these conditions differ from other streaming services? In terms of advertising, let's give up Netflix, at random: the firm with the toudoum promises to only add advertising to its lowest-priced offer. The other two higher-priced offers do not impose advertising. At Prime, advertising has been embedded in the basic formula since last April (“Prime Video movies and series will include advertising in limited quantities”) and that, whatever happens, “Live event content such as sports and complementary channels will continue to include advertising”.
