Did L'Amour Ouf get off to a crazy start at the box office?

Gilles Lellouche's event film divided critics at Cannes, but will it meet its audience?

Gilles Lellouche experienced an emotional lift at the Cannes Film Festival, where Love phew received a 17-minute standing ovation but a rather mixed critical reception. 5 months later, he clashed with another justice of the peace. Spectators' interest in its ambitious 2h45 romantic fresco, supported by a 5-star cast (including Adèle Exarchopoulos and François Civil).

24 hours after the film's release, the director can take a breather. Love phew has successfully launched in France, as could be expected after the success of the large single preview organized simultaneously on Sunday in more than 400 cinemas. More than 86,000 people came on Wednesday to discover the story of Clotaire and Jackie, for a total of 143,000 AVP entries included.

With this score, Love phew achieves the 3rd best start of the year for a French film this year, behind the phenomena A little something extra (252,000 tickets) and The Count of Monte Cristo (113,000). Counting AVPs, it is also 3rd behind the film ofArtus And Retirement home 2.

Love phew also displays the best average number of spectators per copy (137) of the week's releases, and public feedback suggests a bright future for this super production whose budget amounted to 32 million euros. The All Saints' Day holidays start in a few days, which should allow the film to continue its momentum.

Gilles Lellouche's second feature film, on the other hand, does less well than The Great Bathhis first film released in 2018 which attracted 160,000 curious people for its first day, before ending its career with nearly 4.3 million spectators.

Among the other releases of the week, Smile 2 is doing well with nearly 35,000 admissions ahead of the comedy It's the world upside down ! and the animated film Croquette, the wonderful cat. Mercyby Alain Guiraudie, closes the top 5.
