Deadpool 3 has already overtaken Logan at the box office

Marvel's new blockbuster is an even bigger hit than expected. A week after recording 6th best start of all time in the United StatesShawn Levy's film has added nearly $100 million to its American tally: $97 million to be exact, distributed across 4,230 theaters. In ten days, the blockbuster starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has already reached $395 million in the US alone, and has already more than doubled that in total: $824 million collected worldwide. Not to mention that its release has allowed MCU to break all-time recordpassing the 30 billion mark worldwide in 33 feature films (Star Wars, James Bond, Harry Potter and the others are far behind).

Deadpool & Wolverine seems well on its way to doubling the billion Joker topped the list of the biggest R-rated hits (not recommended for under 17s unaccompanied by an adult), and it's already done with regard to LoganJackman's previous incarnation of Wolverine: in 2017, James Mangold's film had reached 619 million dollars in revenue. Doubling it in less than fifteen days is quite symbolic, as D&W questions the passing of the torch between Fox and Disney, the integration of the X-Men within the MCU, etc.

Faced with this phenomenon, competitors are quite far behind. Twisters remains in second place but at “only” 22.6 million collected in 4009 theaters. That is nearly 200 million domestically in three weeks.

Despicable Me 4 is fourth, followed by Inside Out 2 : the two animated productions have respectively accumulated 313 million and 626 million dollars in the United States in five and eight weeks. The latest Pixar is currently the biggest success of 2024 in the world, thanks to 1.5 billion earned in two months.

Among the new features, it is Trapby M. Night Shyamalan, which is doing the best: 15.6 million greenbacks collected for 3,161 screens, or third place in the ranking. The filmmaker's latest thrillers, old And Knock at the Cabinhad a similar debut (16.8 million in 2021 and 14.1 in 2023), but this serial killer film starring Josh Hartnett cost Sony more, around $30 million.

The half-live, half-animated film Harold and the Magic Pencil starts in sixth position thanks to 6 million (for 3325 copies), and the Bollywood production The Day of the Dead is ninth with $616,000 from just 118 theaters.

Note that in July 2024, Attendance broke records in France. In the United States, revenues were also very high: 1.2 billion dollars earned over the month, all releases combined. This represents the best score there since July 2023 and the full house of “Barbenheimer”.
