In June 2024, Gunn was asked by reporters on set about his casting as Superman.“We were inspired by the process we used to select Chris Pratt to play Star-Lord.”clearly stated. “Casting is the most important thing, and I believe it is more important to choose an actor who is suitable for the role than name recognition.''

Before Guardians of the Galaxy, Pratt was primarily known for supporting roles in comedies, including his seven-season role as chubby Andy on Parks and Recreation. Therefore, Gunn did not initially think he would play Star-Lord, and Pratt also did not want to play Star-Lord. Casting directors later revealed that this was the most difficult casting in MCU history.

Corren Sweat, who plays the new Superman, has appeared in “Pearl” (2023) and “What Two Lives Can Teach Us” (2022), and in dramas such as “The Politician” (2019-2020) and “Hollywood” (2020), he was not well-known and could be said to have been in a similar position to Pratt before he took on the role of Star-Lord.

Although a large number of actors attended the audition, Gunn was “extremely nervous” about being cast as Superman. So, on the first day the audition tapes started arriving, Gunn, who had already seen “Pearl,'' asked Corenswet to send the tapes as well.

“The first day I was there, they had tapes of David and Rachel Brosnahan[who was chosen to play Lois Lane]so I watched them both. I was like, 'Oh, this is okay.' I thought they were both great.”

Additionally, Gunn said he tried something he didn't do with Guardians of the Galaxy. They called all the remaining candidates for each role and held auditions with different combinations of actors. “We tried every combination, but when they (Colenswet and Brosnahan) came, it was magic. For me, it was one of the best moments in filmmaking.”

I look forward to seeing the chemistry that Corren Sweat and Brosnahan will display on the big screen.The movie “Superman” will be released in Japan in the summer of 2025.(US release date is July 11th).
