Two NFL Teams Practice in 90-Degree Heat in August: What Could Go Wrong?

Well, the New York Giants and Detroit Lions had at least a few major altercations during their joint training camp at the Big Blue facility on Monday.

The Lions traveled to New Jersey for two days of practice, and it didn't take long for tempers to flare.

Perhaps the biggest fight began after Amon-Ra St. Brown and Dru Phillips exchanged banter, with the All-Pro receiver shoving the Giant before the two sides joined forces, and several other players exchanged blows.

But the big surprise came a little later, when Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was one of the first to get dirty in another scrum.

Giants offensive lineman Jon Runyan was tackled to the ground by a Lions defensive lineman, angering the quarterback, and he landed a hit from behind.

“Situations happen like that, try to defend your guys,” Jones said afterward.

Jones is coming off a torn ACL he suffered Nov. 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders, but he's been at full throttle in training camp — clearly.

It was a disappointing season for Big Blue, as they went 6-11 after surprisingly making the playoffs in 2022. However, as Hard Knocks shows, they improved a lot on paper after acquiring Brian Burns, new offensive linemen, and drafting Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick.

The Lions, meanwhile, were just one half away from their first Super Bowl appearance, but they snuffed out a 24-7 halftime lead that sent the San Francisco 49ers back to the big dance.
