When Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 anchor Michelle Wright spoke with Helene Comperatore shortly after her husband was killed at former President Donald Trump’s rally, she said she wanted to be here for Trump’s return, but she wasn’t sure if she could do it.

At that time, Helen said, she wasn’t sure if she could feel safe.

When she arrived on Saturday to the rally site at the Butler Farm Show grounds, she said the security was completely different than what she saw before.

It was the first time the Comperatore family had been back to the place where Corey lost his life.

“I’m a little sad. We pulled up in the car, where we all sat and cried. It was hard,” Helen said.

When shots rang out on July 13, Corey Comperatore told his family to get down and shoved them out of the way.

He put himself between them and the bullets, one of which hit him in the head.

When Helen arrived at Saturday’s rally, she said she was shocked at how different security measures were at this rally.

“Everything. I look around and there’s security everywhere. It’s night and day,” she said.

Corey’s daughters Kaylee and Allyson said they were nervous about going back but wanted to for their father.

“It’s what our father would have wanted — feels different than when we walked out of here July 13 when we were devastated,” Allyson Comperatore said.

“We started this with my dad, and we need to finish it — so, like, my sister said, I want to walk away with better spirits rather than walking away with tragedy,” Kaylee Comperatore said.

Before they got to the rally, they met with the former president privately.

“He said we have a special day for Corey. ‘You have beautiful daughters to stay strong for.’ So, that’s what we are going to do,” Helen Comperatore said.

The rally included a memorial for Corey at the place he was sitting in July.

“This field is now a monument to the valor of our first responders, to the resilience of our fellow citizens and to the sacrifice of a loving and devoted father and a really great man,” Trump said.

Helen Comperatore said she appreciates all the support, adding she and her daughters are taking each day at a time.
