Cloudy Christmas Day for Pittsburgh
After a foggy start, clouds linger with seasonable temperatures for the holiday.
ELSEWHERE. RUDOLPH HAD A LITTLE BIT OF WORK TO DO AS HE WAS GETTING SANTA’S SLEIGH ACROSS WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA LAST NIGHT. SOME AREAS OF DENSE FOG SETTLING IN. STILL WAKING UP TO THOSE CONDITIONS HERE THIS CHRISTMAS MORNING. RIGHT NOW, VISIBILITY AROUND A HALF MILE BETWEEN GREENSBURG, MORGANTOWN AND ALSO WAYNESBURG. BUT YOU CAN SEE IT’S A FOGGY SCENE ALL ACROSS WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. VIEW IS A LITTLE BIT BETTER IN DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH, EVEN FROM OUR WILKINSBURG LOCATION AS WELL. BUT STILL, SOME OF THAT PATCHY FOG COULD SNEAK UP ON YOU EARLY THIS CHRISTMAS MORNING, AND WE’LL KEEP THAT FOG AROUND THROUGH ABOUT EIGHT 9:00. SO IF YOU ARE HEADING OFF TO CHURCH OR TO GRANDMA AND GRANDPA’S HOUSE OVER THE RIVER, THROUGH THE WOODS, YOU MAY NOTICE SOME OF THAT FOG HERE THIS MORNING AS YOU APPROACH KICKOFF BETWEEN THE STEELERS AND THE CHIEFS AT 1:00. FOG WILL BE OUT OF HERE, BUT STILL IT STAYS CLOUDY ON THIS CHRISTMAS DAY AND TEMPERATURES PRETTY TYPICAL FOR LATE DECEMBER. WE’LL SEE HIGHS RUNNING CLOSE TO 40 DEGREES. AND THAT WILL ALSO BE THE CASE AS HANUKKAH BEGINS AT SUNDOWN AT 5:00 THIS EVENING. LOOKING AT YOUR FOUR DAY FORECAST, TEMPERATURES ONLY CONTINUE TO CLIMB AS WE CONTINUE TO THAW. AFTER THAT FREEZE AND DEEP FREEZE THAT WE HAD OVER THE WEEKEND, ALMOST 50 DEGREES. BY FRIDAY, WE’LL BE WELL INTO THE 50S. WE GO INTO THE WEEKEND. THAT’S ALSO WHEN OUR NEXT CHANCE FOR PRECIPITATION WILL COME IN, AND IT’S GOING TO BE THE WET VARIETY, NOT THE SNOWY, NOT A WHITE CHRISTMAS. THIS YEAR AS WE MELT IT DOWN, A LOT OF THAT SNOW AND OF COURSE, MORE MELTING WILL HAPPEN AS WE GO THROUGH THE DAY. HISTORICALLY SPEAKING, WE HAVE ABOUT A 30% CHANCE OF HAVING AN INCH OF SNOW ON THE GROUND AT 7:00 CHRISTMAS MORNING. ALL TIME HERE IN PITTSBURGH. LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS BACK IN 2022. STILL EXPECTING THOSE PATCHES OF DENSE FOG TO LINGER THROUGH ABOUT EIGHT 9:00 THIS MORNING. BUT AGAIN, AS WE GO INTO YOUR CHRISTMAS AFTERNOON AROUND KICKOFF FOR THE STEELERS, JUST CLOUDY SKIES. HEADS UP AS YOU’RE TRAVELING HOME FROM CHRISTMAS DINNER OR EVEN YOUR FIRST NIGHT OF HANUKKAH CELEBRATIONS. A LITTLE BIT OF MOISTURE TRIES TO COME IN THROUGH THIS EVENING, AND EVEN LINGERING THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS, WE’LL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE TEMPERATURES. THERE COULD BE A LITTLE BIT OF FREEZING DRIZZLE THAT COULD LEAD TO SOME SLICK SPOTS VERY EARLY. IF YOU ARE OUT ON THE ROADS OR BACK TO WORK ON THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS, WE ARE EXPECTING MORE SUNSHINE TO POKE THROUGH BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON AND WE WILL KEEP IT DRY THROUGH FRIDAY. AS I MENTIONED, NEXT CHANCE FOR RAIN LOOKS TO COME IN ON SATURDAY AND IT WILL JUST BE RAIN WITH SOME ISOLATED SHOWERS. SUNDAY IS TRENDING SOGGY ACROSS THE AREA AND THAT COULD OBVIOUSLY SLOW DOWN SOME POST HOLIDAY TRAVEL, SO WE’LL BE KEEPING AN EYE ON THAT AS AGAIN, THE RAIN COULD IMPACT THINGS ON THE ROADS AS WE WIND DOWN THE FINAL WEEKEND OF 2024. STILL, IN THE 50S THROUGH NEW YEAR’S EVE, BUT THEN T
