There was Al Pacino headlining, but he rarely tops fans' lists. And that does not fail to annoy the English director.

Winner last year at the Oscars for Oppenheimerwe are now awaiting the return of Christopher Nolan with The Odysseyhis next feature film directed by Tom Holland in particular. Of Memento has Interstellar passing through The Dark Knightthe filmmaker has clearly marked the 21st century.

And yet, the English director is annoyed that no one ever talks to him about a certain thriller filmed in 2002. Insomniahis third feature film, is a thriller in Alaska, carried by a face to face between Al Pacino And Robin Williams. His most underrated film, as he himself says in Tom Shone's book The Nolan Variations (published in 2020).

“I think that, of all my films, Insomnia is probably the most underrated!“, he says before explaining why the public is not as interested in it as in his other films:

“People say things like, 'Oh, it's not as interesting or it doesn't have the personality of a Memento.' But there's a reason for that: it's based on a screenplay written by someone else. It's a remake of another film (directed by Norwegian Erik Skjoldbjærg). The reality is that it's one of my most personal films!

Warner Bros.

For Christopher Nolannot only Insomnia is not considered at its true value, but in addition, “of all the films I've made, it's the one that fits most directly and naturally into the kind of cinema I'm trying to make. It's true, it doesn't really challenge the genre, and that's what people expect from me now, or from other films I've made. But I think that Insomnia holds the road very well. Granted, it's not really my place to say, but every now and then I meet a filmmaker and this is actually the film that interests them or that they want to talk to me about. Yes, I am very proud of this film.”
