A former director of a Massachusetts migrant shelter is speaking out against what he says are incidents of widespread violence, child sexual assault and rape at the state's shelters, including an incident in which a father got his 14 year old daughter pregnant.
Massachusetts, a sanctuary state, is among many states that have been overwhelmed by the influx of migrants from the southern border.
The state spent nearly $1.1 billion in taxpayer money this fiscal year to house and feed border crossers who were often placed in hotels turned into shelters.

One such migrant shelter in Marlborough, Massachusetts, was run by Jon Fetherston from November 2023 to July 2024, who painted a chaotic picture of his time there with violence, wasteful spending, and rape.
“There was a lot of violence,” Fetherston told the Daily Wire of the crowded shelter of 550 people at the Holiday Inn at 265 Lakeside Ave. “Unfortunately, there was a man in the hotel who impregnated his own daughter and became very violent when the state removed her from the shelter.
A Maine Wire report from June appears to support this claim, reporting that illegal immigrant Ronald Joseph allegedly raped his 14-year-old daughter multiple times during his journey to the United States – before and after crossing the US-Mexico border.
The Department of Children and Families (DcF) interviewed the girl before making the decision to urgently remove her from her father's custody,” states the document obtained by The Maine Wire.
Joseph was then taken in a taxpayer-funded Lyft to another shelter in Worcester, Massachusetts, after he began yelling and making threatening gestures toward shelter staff, The Maine Wire reports, citing records of the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC).
“They asked me to send them to Worcester County,” Fetherston told the Daily Wire. “And I absolutely don't understand why he wasn't locked up. A man who admits to rape, you're just going to put him in another shelter so he can rape again another day? That doing this makes no sense.”
This shelter is also paid for by taxpayers and residents receive full benefits during their stay, according to The Maine Wire, which reports that the official report does not recommend criminal charges be filed against Joseph.
In another disturbing incident, Fetherston says a 16-year-old student claims she was raped multiple times by a 29-year-old man.
“She told the officer that she had been raped multiple times. It was probably the most disturbing conversation I've ever heard in my adult life,” Fetherston told the Daily Wire.
“LIBERATION DAY”: WHAT TO EXPECT FROM PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP ON BORDER SECURITY AND IMMIGRATION
The man, identified as Gladimy Rodene by The Maine Wire, was arrested, kicked out of the shelter and reportedly given an abuse prevention order, which prohibited him from going near the Marlborough Holiday Inn or the local high school where his victim is a student .
Rodene allegedly sexually assaulted another girl, according to the Daily Wire, citing a security guard's report recounting a statement from the initial victim.
An ICE spokesperson told the Daily Wire that they did not have detainees on any of the individuals.
In another violent incident at a Massachusetts shelter, a pregnant woman was allegedly raped and assaulted at another hotel shelter in July by Marc Kervens Beauvais, a 34-year-old Haitian national, according to the Boston Globe.
In August, ICE said it arrested Cory Bernard Alvarez, a 26-year-old Haitian national, accused of aggravated rape of a 15-year-old child at a Rockland migrant shelter.
Fetherston also spoke about migrants fighting over access to microwaves and in one incident, a migrant drove a car into Fetherston's office, knocking him out of his chair, in what he claims were injuries. retaliation for refusing to distribute diapers to migrants receiving government benefits.
“If you were receiving benefits and you were receiving benefits, then we were going to start reducing the supply of diapers and formula and wipes,” Fetherston said. “This did not go down well with the migrants. They thought they were being attacked. One man then drove his car to my office.”
Fetherston told the Daily Wire that her daily tasks include helping migrants sign up for social services like food stamps and government health insurance. The migrants received three meals a day from catering companies, and he bought them basic necessities such as toiletries, diapers, strollers and baby wipes.
He also coordinated state-paid dry cleaning for migrants on the same day and arranged Uber rides to work when needed. He added that he was given a budget from Amazon and other accounts to purchase basic necessities for migrants, with no spending cap.
“They have maybe two days' worth of clothes on them and they don't have any toiletries, they don't have any ID, they don't have anything,” Fetherston told the Daily Wire. “The state contract called for you to supply everything they would need, so you spent a lot of your days ordering.”
The news comes as Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said her state's police would “absolutely not cooperate” with mass deportation efforts expected by the new Trump administration, warning that they would use “every tool of the toolbox” to “protect” blue state residents.
President-elect Trump has pledged to launch “the largest national deportation operation in American history” to remove millions of illegal immigrants. A report from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) estimates that 50,000 migrants have arrived in the state since 2021.

“I think it's important that we all recognize that there will be a lot of pressure on states and their officials. I can assure you that we will work hard to achieve that,” Healey said after the president's resounding statement elected Trump. electoral victory last month.
Last year, Healey declared a state of emergency in the state due to the surge and called for federal action. She also acknowledged that state policies can attract migrants.
“Many of these families are migrants to Massachusetts, drawn here because we are and have proudly been a beacon for those in need,” she wrote in a letter to the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security , Alejandro Mayorkas.
