Canonsburg man among those injured in New Year’s attack in New Orleans
The man is wheelchair bound and broke both legs
51-year-old Jeremi Sensky, from Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, was in surgery Wednesday evening after being injured in the New Year’s attack in New Orleans that left 15 people dead. Jeremi, already confined to a wheelchair, suffered two broken legs after being hit by the truck that rammed into a crowd of people. His daughter, Heaven, tells Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that the family came to New Orleans to celebrate the New Year. She said her dad was not able to get off the street when the truck plowed into the crowd of people and was thrown out of his chair. A police officer marked Sensky as alive, and he was transported to University Medical Center with two broken legs. But, it was hours before the family could even learn of what happened. Heaven said they could not get ahold of him and started calling all the hospitals, eventually just showing up to one, and then they learned the frightening news. Heaven said in a quote to us;”By the grace of God, he’s alive. I want people to know that my dad is alive, full of life. He is resilient and lives vibrantly and I’m sure he’ll continue to.”As of 10 p.m. Wednesday night, Sensky was out of surgery in stable condition. The family said they are now just waiting for him to come off the ventilator. We also learned that Pittsburgh’s Pirates pitchers, Paul Skeens and Bubba Chandler, as well as Skeen’s girlfriend, Livvy Dunne, were also in New Orleans last night. Dunne posted a photo of the group inside a bar. She immediately posted another photo with a broken heart emoji of New Orleans, seemingly hours before the deadly attack. We did reach out to the Pirates for an update on Chandler and Skeens but have yet to hear back.
