In remarks from Camp David Wednesday night, President Joe Biden condemned the actions of a U.S. Army veteran who drove a truck into a New Year’s crowd in New Orleans, killing 15 people.

The FBI identified the suspect as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, who agents believe did not act alone.

Biden called the attack “heinous” and “despicable” and said Jabbar had terrorist ties and a desire to kill. Investigators found videos inspired by the Islamic State group that Jabbar posted to social media hours before the attack.

“The law enforcement and the intelligence communities continue to look for any connections, associations or co-conspirators,” Biden said. “We have nothing additional to report at this time. The investigation is continuing to be active, and no one should jump to conclusions.”

Alongside the FBI, Biden directed the attorney general, Homeland Security, counterterrorism, and U.S. intelligence agencies to continue investigating the attack.

Biden also noted that the FBI was looking into whether an explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas was linked to the New Orleans attack.

Officials say firework mortars and gas canisters were found inside a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside of the hotel early Wednesday, hours after the attack in New Orleans. The explosion killed the driver inside and injured several people nearby, sparking an intense investigation into a possible act of terrorism.

President-elect Donald Trump and Tesla founder Elon Musk were not at the hotel at the time of the attack and were celebrating the New Year in Florida.
