Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach already have an idea for a sequel, but Warner Bros. demented.
A little over a year after the phenomenon barbie and its gross of 1.4 billion dollars, a new film seems to be on the way.
Barbie 2 would have launched its development at Warner Bros. according to The Hollywood Reporter, which announces that the process is only in the “early stages” of development, but nevertheless specifies that the couple Greta Gerwig — who co-wrote and directed the original film — and Noah Baumbach already have “developed an idea for a new film. Idea which would have been presented to Warner Bros.
THR notes that nothing has been finalized yet, but that the duo could begin working on the project after their respective next films. Noah Baumbach is currently finishing a feature film titled Jay Kelly for Netflix, worn by George Clooney, Adam Sandler and also Greta Gerwig. At the same time, Gerwig is working on her adaptation of Chronicles of Narnia.
“The fact that a story has been found opens the door to negotiations, which, again, are still in their early stages.” specifies THR, relying on anonymous sources, which the studio insisted on refuting. Contacted by the specialized site, Warner Bros. and a representative of the filmmakers denies: “This information has no legitimacy. THR's information is inaccurate.”
But the site maintains this idea that Barbie 2 is now launched and even suggests that Baumbach will begin writing, before being joined by Greta Gerwig. To be continued.
