A very östlundian quest for identity and the drama of a Norwegian separation were also distinguished during the 16th edition of the European Film Festival.
The feature film jury of the 16th Arcs Film Festival, which takes place each year in the winter sports resort of the same name, has just delivered its verdict. It is Kneecap by Rich Peppiatt (French release on June 18) which won the Crystal Arrow for the best European feature film among the eight selected. The energetic story of three young Irish rappers trying to find their way in a fractured country. The film also won the prize for best original music, the Cinglés du cinéma prize and the young jury prize.
The public prize, awarded by the votes of spectators, rewarded Peacock by the Austrian Bernhard Wenger, or the quest for the identity of a professional chameleon played by Albrecht Schuch (In the West, nothing new). Norwegian Loveable by Lilja Inglofsdottir, a drama about a separation, received the Grand Jury Prize and the Best Actor Prize for actress Helga Guren. Another interpretation prize was given to Marilena Amato in Victoria by Alessandro Cassigoli and Casey Kauffman, about a Neapolitan hairdresser's desire to have a child. Finally, Lithuanian Toxic about a young girl's entry into a modeling school won the prize for best photography. The feature film jury was made up of actors Pio Marmaï, Céline Sallette and Sofiane Zermani, writer Delphine de Vigan, director Peter Kerekes and composer Herdís Stafánsdóttir.
For its part, the short film jury, formed by the actresses Camille Chamoux, Lina El Arabi and Bérangère McNeese, the director of Vermines Sébastien Vaniček and the short film department manager at France TV Christophe Taudière, awarded the prize for best film in this format among the twelve proposed to Dancing in the Corner by Jan Bujnowski: a story set at the fall of the wall, in Poland, when color TVs invade homes…
