Already 1 million for L'amour ouf, 9 million for Monte-Cristo at the French box office

French films are always popular. Gilles Lellouche's musical epic gets off to a spectacular start.

The public's heart beats wildly for Love phew. Despite mixed reviews after its screening in Cannes, the dantesque romantic epic of Gilles Lellouche won over the public. In a portfolio of 630 theaters, the feature film passed the highly symbolic threshold of one million admissions for its first week of release.

A sigh of relief for the filmmaker, even if his new film is less than the previous one: The Great Bath began with 1.5 million spectators in 2018 and ended its career with 4.2 million admissions. A score that Love phewless “feel good movie”, will have more difficulty achieving.

In the rest of the box office, we will note that if The Wild Robot remains painfully in second place for its second week (750,000 cumulative admissions so far in France), the animated film is closely followed by Smile 2. Finally, we must salute the milestone of the week: The Count of Monte Cristo continues to build on its summer success. Still broadcast in nearly 500 theaters in France, the film starring Pierre Niney has just passed 9 million admissions. It is only the 17th French film to achieve this in the entire history of the French box office. Alexandre Dumas' adaptation is currently the 46th biggest success of all time in France.
