Critical success with three Oscar nominations for Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Visual Effects Editing – lost to the second part of TerminatorBackdraft has had mixed public success with a cumulative gross of 152 million dollars (for a budget of 100 million). It nevertheless remains a cult film, which has the right to an attraction at Universal Studios in Hollywood (since closed) and to a sequel in 2019 by the Spanish director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallegowith Joe Anderson in the lead role, and the return of William Baldwin And Donald Sutherland.

A remake which is part of a recycling trend which benefits Glen Powell and which Brian Grazer comments on in these terms:

“These formats from the late 90s and 2000s have become very important because broadcasters or studios are even more risk-averse today. They like brands that are already established and that people know well, to which they add a little extra or a really interesting cast, which of course we do with our films.”

The producer has not announced any other cast members or a director for the remake. Perhaps Glen Powell will have the luxury of working with some of the original cast members, despite Donald Sutherland's recent passing?

No release date has been announced either, nor any official synopsis.
