A great historical fresco lasting 3.5 hours, about a survivor of the camps, which shocked festival-goers this weekend.

More than 3h30 of film… And the audience at the Venice Film Festival still wanted to stay in the room at the end of the credits, to applaud Adrien Brody and the director Brady Corbet for 12 minutes!

This weekend, The Brustalist emerged as the first darling of the 81st Venice Film Festival. An intense historical drama that follows a Hungarian Holocaust survivor struggling to relaunch his career as an architect in the United States. Adrien Brodywho plays the leading role with Felicity Jones And Guy Pearce by his side, was overcome with emotion as applause rained down, until security ushered everyone out. The actor wiped away tears and put his head in his hands, as the audience only had eyes for him. It must be said that 20 years later The Pianistwhich earned him an Oscar and a César, the American actor plays László Tóth over four decades, in a Dantesque fresco cut by a 15-minute intermission, about this survivor who pursues his American dream after the end of the Second World War…

“This film does everything we are forbidden to do” confided Brady Corbetthe director, during the film's press conference. “I find it ridiculous to focus on the length of the film: it's like criticizing a book that's 700 pages long instead of 100!”

The Brutalist does not yet have a release date in France.
