Noah Hawley loved Romulus, but he explains how his Alien series will be different.
A few weeks after finding the Xenomorphs at the cinema in Alien: Romulusthe saga will take a television turn with Alien: Earththe new series created by Noah Hawleywhich takes place before the events of the first film. A prequel that – as its name suggests – moves the plot to Earth. And that changes everything for the creator:
“There's something special about seeing a xenomorph in the wilds of Earth, seeing the creatures move through our world.“, Hawley told Deadline before promising:
“It's really scary to think that a Xenomorph could be walking around here, among us. And so I can't tell you under what circumstances you'll see it, but you will see it… And I can assure you that you'll be locking your door that night!”
Noah Hawley also confesses to having wanted to bring his touch to the Xenomorph, “not really rethinking the creature and its silhouette, but incorporating some of my own thoughts into the design. Some of the elements we know tell us that the host can have an impact on what the final creature will be. I just wanted to play around a bit to make it as scary as it should be.”
The creator of the series, who has already carried Fargo on the small screen in the past with success, obviously wants to respect the original franchise and confides in IndieWire: “When I adapt a film, which I've done several times already, I take the time to watch it again and try to understand what it makes me feel and why. And then I try to recreate those feelings by telling a completely different story. It's a question of tone, and, for Aliento really dig into the tone of the first film and the second, which are the two that really interested me.” He still had free rein to do Alien: Eartheven if he has “discussed with Ridley Scott“who will be producing through his company, Scott Free.”He's the boss. He's the creator of this franchise. But you know, like the Coen brothers with Fargo, he's been very respectful of my own vision of things.”
Eventually, Noah Hawley admits that his series will have nothing to do with Alien: Romulusfor a simple matter of format: “I found that Romulus was great. It's very emotional! But it was a survival movie. Survival is great for two hours, but for 20, 30, or 50 hours on TV, it's not enough. You have to tell a bigger story, one that goes beyond the simple question: Who is the last survivor?”
Alien: Earth will be released in 2025 on the FX channel and on Disney Plus in France.
The casting will be carried by Sydney Chandler (the daughter of actor Kyle Chandler), and also by Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin and Timothy Olyphant.
