A major production which will tell the story of John Hunyadi, a Transylvanian general who protected the Kingdom of Hungary from the Ottoman invasion in the 15th century.

After the Vikings which focused on the North of Europe, here is Rise of the Ravena brand new medieval series which will look at History further east of the Continent, in Central Europe.

Beta Film unveils the spectacular trailer for Rise of the Ravenan epic 10-episode series based on the bestselling novels by author Bán Mór, which will tell the story of Hungarian warrior Janos Hunyadi (known in France as Jean Hunyadi) who defeated the Ottoman army in 1456 at the Battle of Belgrade (in present-day Serbia), halting its progress across Europe and marking a turning point in the continent's history.

In an atmosphere of Braveheartwe thus see Hunyadi (Kádár L. Gellért) deliver a fiery speech to the army he recruited to fight the Ottoman threat, with his warrior wife Elizabeth Szilagyi (Vivien Rujder) fighting alongside him. Meanwhile, the heroic general's first love, Serbian princess Mara Brankovic (Franciska Töröcsik), commits the ultimate sacrifice to save her people when she agrees to join the royal court of Sultan Murad II (Murathan Muslu) as a concubine.

Rise of the Raven promises to be an eye-catcher and stands out as one of the most expensive European television productions ever made. “It has a budget comparable to a series produced by a global streaming network. assures the producer in Variety. “I think in the world of non-English language production, it's probably the most ambitious ever, just because of its scale and size and cost. Raising that kind of funding was somewhat miraculous.

Filmed in Hungary and near Budapest, the series is produced by Serendipity Point Films, and Beta Film (behind Gomorrah Or Babylon Berlin). Rise of the Raven will be presented at Mipcom in Cannes this October 22 and will seek to find broadcasters for the whole world. We therefore do not yet know who will broadcast in France.
