Very warm weekend; Impact Day for rain Sunday
Need some fresh air? Today’s the day to get outside before rain tomorrow.
THAT’S PITTSBURGH’S ACTION SPORTS. TIME NOW FOR ANOTHER LOOK AT WEATHER THIS SATURDAY. JILL HOW’S IT LOOKING? YEAH. IF YOU NEED A LITTLE BREAK FROM BEING INSIDE WITH ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY, OF COURSE IT’S ALWAYS NICE, BUT MAYBE YOU NEED A LITTLE BIT OF FRESH AIR. TODAY. REALLY A GOOD DAY TO GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY. MAYBE DO A LITTLE DECORATING AS WELL AS TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE VERY WARM FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. ALL THE RAIN HAS PUSHED OUT. TOMORROW A DIFFERENT STORY AS WE ARE EXPECTING MORE OF THAT WIDESPREAD RAIN TO COME IN. STILL GOING TO BE VERY WARM WITH HIGHS IN THE LOWER 60S. ON THE IMPACT DAY FOR YOUR SUNDAY. STILL TRACKING A FEW LITTLE ISOLATED SHOWERS, MAINLY WORKING THROUGH THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS RIGHT NOW. YOU CAN SEE A LITTLE BIT OF THAT LIGHT RAIN SPLASHED OUTSIDE OF INDIANA. ALSO CLOSER TO BLAIRSVILLE, EVEN LATROBE AND LIGONIER THAT IS NOW ALSO WORKING THROUGH PARTS OF WESTERN SOMERSET COUNTY. MEANWHILE, CAN’T RULE OUT A FEW OF THOSE STRAY DROPS AS WELL. NEAR THE MONON EXPRESSWAY INTO PARTS OF WASHINGTON COUNTY. OTHERWISE, WE ARE DRYING THINGS UP REALLY IN A GOOD FASHION HERE. AS WE’RE WAKING UP ON A SATURDAY MORNING GOING FORWARD INTO THE AFTERNOON. JUST A LIMITED SHOWER CHANCE. BUT THE MAIN STORY TODAY IS GOING TO BE ALL OF THAT WARMTH. HERE’S AN INTERESTING LITTLE STAT FOR YOU. WE’VE ONLY REACHED 60 DEGREES OR BETTER ON THIS DATE SEVEN TIMES HERE IN PITTSBURGH TODAY. MORE THAN LIKELY COULD BE THE EIGHTH TIME, AS TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE INCREDIBLY WARM FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. ALL ACROSS WESTERN PA. LOWER 60S FOR YOUR SUNDAY. BUT AGAIN, IT IS AN IMPACT DAY AS WE ARE EXPECTING RAIN TO BE HERE BY THIS TIME TOMORROW. IT’S GOING TO LAST THROUGH THE BETTER PART OF THE DAY. IN FACT, THE HEAVIEST RAIN FALLS BETWEEN ABOUT 11 IN THE MORNING AND FIVE IN THE EVENING. A GUSTY THUNDERSTORM ALSO CAN’T BE RULED OUT. SOUTH AND EAST OF PITTSBURGH, RAINFALL TOTALS HAVE BEEN SHAVED BACK BECAUSE THE STORM TRACK HAS SHIFTED A LITTLE BIT MORE TO OUR WEST. SO NOW LOOKING AT A GENERAL HALF INCH TO AN INCH OF RAIN WITH SOME OF THOSE HIGHER TOTALS OFF TO THE WEST. MORE ON THAT IN JUST A MOMENT. TEMPERATURES WILL DROP ABOUT TEN DEGREES INTO THE START OF THE NEW WEEK. ANOTHER IMPACT DAY ON NEW YEAR’S EVE. AS FOR SCATTERED SHOWERS WILL BE AROUND FOR FIRST NIGHT CELEBRATIONS, BUT THEN TAKE A LOOK AT THE EARLY DAYS OF THE NEW YEAR. WINTER SHOWS UP NOT ONLY WITH COLDER TEMPERATURES, BUT ALSO SOME PASSING SNOW CHANCES. LET’S FIRST, THOUGH, FOCUS ON THE RAIN THAT IS COMING IN. HERE’S 4:00 TOMORROW MORNING. YOU CAN SEE THE BULK OF THE STEADY RAIN OFF TO OUR WEST STILL, BUT MANY OF US WILL BE WAKING UP VERY WARM. SOME SCATTERED SHOWER ACTIVITY AGAIN LATE IN THE MORNING TOWARDS ABOUT MIDDAY. THAT’S WHEN THE COVERAGE OF THE RAIN WILL PICK UP, AND ALSO SOME OF THAT HEAVIER RAIN MIXED IN. THERE COULD BE THE ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM, COULD PRODUCE SOME GUSTY WINDS, SO WE’LL KEEP AN EYE ON THAT, ESPECIALLY FROM ALLEGHENY COUNTY AND POINTS SOUTHWARD. THAT SHOULD BE EXITING THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS. AS WE LOOK TOWARDS SIX 7:00 IN THE EVENING. THEN PRETTY QUICKLY, TEMPERATURES WILL START TO COOL. AND AGAIN, WE’RE ONLY LOOKING AT THE 50S ON MONDAY. STILL, THOUGH, A LITTLE BIT OF MOISTURE IN THE MORNING COULD PRODUCE A STRAY SPRINKLE OR FLURRY. AGAIN, THAT FOCUS OF THE RAIN MOVING OFF TO OUR WEST. NOW WE WERE TALKING ABOUT YESTERDAY, THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS BEING AREAS WE NEED TO WATCH. WELL, NOW IT LOOKS LIKE AREAS ALONG AND WEST OF I 79. SO AGAIN, A BIT OF A SHIFT THERE FROM WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT YESTERDAY, BUT STILL A DECENT SOAKING. WE COULD PICK UP A FEW MORE OF THOSE RAINDROPS ON NEW YEAR’S EVE BEFORE WE BRING IN WINTER, JUST IN TIME TO RING IN 2025. WE SAID TODAY IS A GOOD DAY FOR THE DECORATING AND I’M NOT READY. I KNOW RIGHT? I DON’T WANT TO LOSE A LIFE JUST YET, OF COURSE, BUT WE HAVE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THOSE WARM, DRY DAYS.
