After the opening and closing shows of the Cannes festival, now broadcast on France Télévisions…
“The encrypted channel accelerates its transformation into a streaming platform”was the headline a few days ago when we learned that the 4th channel of the PAF was going to disappear. Just like its Canal+ Cinema, Sport and Planet versions. The group will now bet everything on MyCanal.
Shortly after this shock announcement, we learned via a conference organized by Disney+ that it is now this streaming platform which will broadcast the Oscars ceremonyfrom 2025. We do not yet know what the French deployment of the platform will be for the moment, but it is clear that their contract with the Academy starts from its next edition, on the night of Sunday 2 to Monday 3 March 2025.
In October 2021, Canal already sold the broadcasting rights to other important ceremonies of the 7th art: the openings and closings of the Cannes Film Festival are now scheduled on France.TV.
Note that this announcement follows the decision of Canal+ and Disney+ to no longer collaborate. From January 1, new Disney, Marvel or Pixar films will no longer be offered on the encrypted channel, whereas until now, they arrived on Canal+ six months after their theatrical release. From this date, it will also be impossible to access the Disney + platform via Canal +.
