The film in theaters: Wicked by Jon M. Chu
An adaptation of a musical of legendary Broadway, prequel to The Wizard of Oz set in a magical university, full of solid gold tubes, talking animals, pink and green backgrounds, pop choreography, swirls and digitals… All that, and much more, for 2 hours 40 minutes. And that’s just Act I (the rest is coming in a year). In short, fasten your seat belts and keep your hands and legs inside the mat as the Genie says in Aladdin : Wicked is the blockbuster Christmas movie that will give you bang for your buck and then some.
What's new at the cinema this week
The series: Skeleton Crew
Putting aside the Skywalkers and its big mythology that has become horribly heavy to bear, Star Wars embarks on a new adventure where kids lost in the Galaxy far, far away think they are space pirates. This makes for a very calibrated series, certainly, but one with an undeniably catchy execution. Jon Watts (who directed the last Spider-Man trilogy) offers a brand new approach aimed at children, which perfectly mixes the imagination of George Lucas with the cult spirit of Goonies where camaraderie, curiosity and puberty mix.

The movie on TV: Furiosa by George Miller
If you see for the first time Furiosa tonight – especially on TV – personally, I wouldn't brag about it. So here are some cartridges to avoid getting burned: Angry: “It begins like a Garden of Eden with an apple that is too red and picked. It's pretty ugly, certainly, but very quickly the film turns orange and screws with Dune…” ; Pedantic: “The big idea is to make Furiosa an almost mute wildling. Anya Taylor-Joy's expressive eyes take us back to the early days of cinema…” ; Bourrin: “Honestly I was afraid to see Thor but Chris is so good as a villain that he's cool…” ; Pedantic: “I'm waiting for the chrome version to find out!” ; Nerd : “Ok there's no Mad Max in it but in reality he's the one watching the film being made from afar. The proof is seen at one point at the top of a cliff… Rockatansky sees everything! Furiosa is a purely mental film, even Rivettian!” Another option. Casual: “Ah, is it that good?“Good film to all.

The film on VOD: Anzu, ghost cat by Yōko Kuno and Nobuhiro Yamashita
Between Vice-Versa 2 And Flow, Anzu, ghost cat has gone well unnoticed, and that makes it even more dear to us. Oh, he's quite shaggy, this cat: a scammer cat spirit, fond of beer and gambling, juggling a thousand jobs on a scooter and responsible for looking after a little girl whose mother has just died. It's more kitanesque than ghibliesque, that's for sure, but don't hesitate to give it another chance Anzu.

The film in streaming: Winter Break by Alexander Payne
Winter break features a gruff and misanthropic teacher (Paul Giamatti) who, asked to stay to watch the high school where he teaches during the end-of-year holidays, finds himself having to spend Christmas with one of his very gifted but totally insubordinate students and the cook of the establishment, bruised by the death of her son in Vietnam. A beautiful tribute toAlexander Payne to the poignant melancholy of the cinema of Hal Ashby (from The Last Chore has Welcome Mister Chance) which comes at the right time on Canal Plus.

The classic: Secret Conversation by Francis Ford Coppola
What's better to digest pudding Megalopolis than end the year with one of Coppola's main dishes! A film whose fine lines will make you forget Cirque Pinder. Secret conversationstuck between two Sponsors was a priori a dessert for Paramount. Not for Coppola who dreamed of this variation around the Blow-Up by Antonioni. A sound recordist (Hackman) almost by chance picks up a conversation whose seriousness he will quickly assess. He then plunges into a paranoid spiral. Race review: a Palme d'Or, Oscar nominations and a model of feverish tension. And since sounds are important here, let's highlight the beauty of David Shire's minimalist score and its heady piano theme!
